Description
Smith Currie Oles LLP is seeking an engaging Law Firm Marketing Director to lead our marketing department and elevate our firm's brand presence. This role will be based out of one of the firm's offices in either Atlanta GA, Fort Lauderdale FL, Tysons VA or Seattle WA.
In this pivotal role, you will develop and execute innovative marketing strategies that position the firm as a leader in construction and government contracting law, ultimately attracting new clients and strengthening relationships with existing ones. Best candidates have a deep understanding of professional services marketing, and can influence attorneys to participate in firm and personal marketing efforts. Strategy and Brand
- Develop and execute the firm’s overall marketing strategy, aligned with practice group growth priorities.
- Lead brand positioning and messaging across the construction law and government contracts practice areas; refresh visual identity, voice, and market narrative as needed.
- Serve as marketing advisor to the Managing Partner, Chief Operating Officer, Marketing Partner/Committee, and individual attorneys on positioning, market entry, and competitive differentiation.
Business Development
- Build and operate a structured BD program: client targeting, pitch development, RFP responses, and cross-selling initiatives.
- Coach attorneys on individual BD plans and client relationship strategy; track outcomes and ROI.
- Identify and prioritize industry rankings, conferences, sponsorships, and association engagements aligned with firm targets.
Data and Analytics
- Implement marketing and BD metrics: origination attribution, campaign performance, website and content engagement, and event ROI.
- Own the firm’s CRM (or lead selection/implementation if one is not in place); ensure data hygiene and meaningful adoption by attorneys.
- Report quarterly to the Executive Committee on marketing performance against defined KPIs.
Communications and PR
- Evaluate the firm’s current PR agency relationship within 90 days; renegotiate scope, redirect spend, or transition functions in-house based on ROI analysis.
- Drive thought leadership programs: bylined articles, speaking placements, industry rankings (Chambers, Best Lawyers, Benchmark), and award submissions.
- Oversee the firm’s digital presence: website, LinkedIn, email marketing, and content calendar.
Team Leadership
- Lead, develop, and evaluate the Marketing & Brand Manager and Marketing Specialist.
- Manage the marketing budget; allocate resources across internal office/lawyer budgets, technology, and events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field; MBA or JD a plus but not required.
- 8–12+ years of progressive marketing and business development experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
- Substantive experience in professional services marketing; law firm or consulting firm experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success building and executing brand strategy and BD programs that produced measurable revenue outcomes.
- Strong analytical orientation; fluency with CRM platforms (Salesforce, InterAction, HubSpot, or comparable) and marketing analytics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact credibly with attorneys and senior firm leadership.
- Ability to travel as needed to events and other firm offices (approx. 6-8 trips per year)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience marketing construction law, government contracts, or related industry-focused practice areas.
- Prior experience managing agency relationships and making in-house-vs.-outsourced decisions.
- Experience with thought leadership programs that produced measurable rankings, placements, or speaking outcomes.
