Company Profile

Company Overview

Hirschler Fleischer is a multispecialty law firm with more than 80 lawyers serving clients throughout the United States. Clients choose Hirschler Fleischer for its ability to deliver sophisticated legal advice while maintaining the more personal experience of a boutique law firm. The goal of the firm’s representation is simple: leverage its lawyers’ in-house and AmLaw 100 experience to provide clients with advice that is strategic, practical and cost effective. Standing toe-to-toe with larger firms on talent and experience, Hirschler Fleischer competes on value and the level of personal attention its lawyers devote to each and every client.

Company History

Late in 1945, Major Edward S. Hirschler and Lieutenant Alan Fleischer came home from the Pacific Theater at the end of World War II. To save on expenses, the two lawyers shared an office space in Richmond, Virginia’s only “skyscraper.” From this modest start grew Hirschler Fleischer – today, the eighth largest law firm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Founders Ed Hirschler and Alan Fleischer were entrepreneurs as well as lawyers. Hirschler and Fleischer hustled for business, often creating businesses of their own–an insurance company, a bank–to generate more legal work. “Creative capitalism” became a defining characteristic of the firm.
During its first 20 years, Hirschler Fleischer grew its business and real estate practices conservatively. By 1970, the firm had 11 lawyers and became full service with the addition of a litigation practice. Firm involvement in high-profile Richmond area real estate projects solidified Hirschler Fleischer’s reputation as a local real estate powerhouse.
By 1993, Hirschler Fleischer had expanded to 40 lawyers and opened a second office in Fredericksburg. Firm lawyers began organizing hedge and private equity funds and matching venture capitalists with companies needing financing.
In the 2000s, on the heels of the Fredericksburg office’s move to a historic factory building, Hirschler Fleischer relocated its Richmond office to the rehabilitated Edgeworth building on Tobacco Row. The firm began its 13-streak as a top-ranked real estate practice in Chambers USA and its four-year streak as the national winner of The M&A Advisor’s “Law Firm of the Year.” In January 2016, Hirschler Fleischer combined with the like-minded lawyers of Tysons, Virginia-based Leach Travell, adding seven lawyers and establishing a third office in the D.C. metro market.
