We seek an experienced Business Development Manager to serve as a high-level leader in the Client Relations Department, providing strategic direction and advice to assigned practice groups and industry teams. This position is responsible for the development and execution of business plans and initiatives that assist the attorneys with the acquisition, retention and expansion of clients.


  • Build trust and rapport as a leader in the legal marketing industry with attorneys, Business Development Team members and other administrative staff to advance the firm's financial growth through the retention and expansion of current clients and acquisition of new clients.
  • Work with practice group and industry team leaders to provide strategic direction and ideas for the development and effective implementation of business plans to achieve revenue growth.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for assigned groups, and oversee projects with support from Business Development Specialists and the Marketing Communications Team.
  • Attend and facilitate planning meetings with assigned groups with the goal of creating, implementing and monitoring strategic business development activities, and tracking progress.
  • Attend and actively participate in regular group meetings, providing business development updates and other information relevant to the group.
  • Assist in the proactive identification of new revenue generation opportunities based on deep knowledge of the groups' clients, industries and markets.
  • Work closely with Director of Business Development to implement business development initiatives within assigned groups.
  • Lead the process to analyze market data using firm tools and resources on clients, prospects and competitors to support practice/team business development goals.
  • Collaborate with the Practice Group Administrator (PGA) to align business development initiatives with overall strategic, staffing and financial goals.
  • Coordinate with Finance and COO to develop pricing proposals and other work on finance/fee related projects.
  • Provide direction for the development of marketing and business development initiatives such as events, proposals, pitch packets, marketing materials, practice descriptions and presentations, as identified in group plans.
  • When appropriate, coach attorneys in one-on-one and team situations to capitalize on business development opportunities.
  • Work with the Marketing Communications Team to expand practice/team visibility and enhance the firm's profile in a variety of ways, including seminars, webinars, client alerts, trade organization participation, article placement, newsletters, survey responses, directory listings and public relations.
  • Assist lateral attorneys for assigned groups to ensure a timely integration, promotion and client transition. 
  • Supervise Business Development Specialists assigned to Account team, including serving as a mentor and providing strategic input and direction, facilitating a business development mentality at all times.
  • Oversee and manage group marketing budgets.
  • Other duties as necessary or assigned.



  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or Related Field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a business development role is preferred.
  • Previous legal experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strategic vision combined with the ability to effectively execute utilizing firm resources and personnel in order to achieve business goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience building rapport and creating strong relationships with attorneys at all levels, as well as staff, to achieve results.
  • Proven organizational and project management skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently lead and manage a wide variety of practice groups, client service teams, and industry teams.
  • Baseline knowledge of assigned practices/teams/industries and a basic understanding of all practices in the firm to facilitate cross-selling.
  • Excellent organizational, project management and judgement skills are required, as well as the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and pay strong attention to detail.
  • Must possess a strong customer service attitude and work well under pressure, with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to be a collaborative team player.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM proposal software
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently work more than 40 hours per week.
