Description

SUMMARY: According to established policies and procedures, and under the direction of the Chief Client Officer, this position leads the strategy and management high-value RFP/RFIs and key new business pursuits, as well as business research and competitive intelligence in support of the firm’s growth. The Director, Proposals and Experience leads and manages the firm’s proposal team, responsible for the content creation, design, and project management of the firm’s RFP/RFI responses and new business pursuits. The role requires mastery of managing numerous projects with continually shifting deadlines and operating with a sense of urgency to advance key business objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Lead high priority proposal responses, providing strategic and tactical advice and guidance to attorneys and client growth teams.
2. Manage, train and develop the firm’s proposal team, providing collaboration and leadership directly affecting the outcomes of news business pursuits and win rates.
3. Provide significant contributions to the continuous improvement of the firm’s proposal management processes, tools, and templates to ensure compliant and compelling business pursuit materials.
4. Create comprehensive competitive intelligence reports for firm management, including market profiles for new office locations, legal industry trends, high-profile pursuits, and legal competitors, including their penetration of key clients.
5. Lead and facilitate key new business pursuit presentations and RFP finalist presentation preparation to support the win strategy through completion and debrief.
6. Oversee multiple, concurrent projects with high priority deadlines.
7. Conduct training for the firm’s client growth team on proposal and competitive intelligence research best practices and tools and create formal training guides and procedures for the Client Growth department.
8. Coach attorneys regarding best practices in the creation and delivery of winning pitches and proposals, identifying key issues and strategies to provide responses tailored to the target’s needs.
9. Collaborate with leaders and stakeholders within various firm departments, including Legal Operations, DEI, HR, Finance, and IT, as well as various practice areas.
10. Analyze and track the firm’s new business pursuit data to regularly provide ROI and metrics for firm management.
11. Oversee the firm’s proposal generator and competitive intelligence tools and vendor relationships.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. A Baccalaureate or advanced degree with course work in relevant subjects such as marketing, project management, or business management.
2. Ten (10) years’ experience in proposal management and/or business development in a professional services environment.
3. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills with the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely to high-level constituents.
4. Leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and attorneys to advance the firm’s client growth goals.
5. Must have flexible schedule to manage time-sensitive requests and the ability to travel to other offices to support firm initiatives as needed.
