Orrick has an exciting opening for an experienced Marketing & Business Development Manager who is ready to be challenged and build a career within an AmLaw Top 100 law firm. This position can sit in our New York, Houston, San Francisco or Washington D.C. office.

What Will You Do?   As a Marketing and Business Development Manager, you will be a member of the team that provides support to the firm’s global Energy and Infrastructure (E&I) practice in their business development initiatives and activities. Your primary role will be to contribute to the development, execution and ongoing review of strategic plans and programs, cross-selling initiatives and key client activities to support the E&I practice, as well as Orrick's firmwide business goals and strategies.

In this role you will also provide proactive support for Energy & Infrastructure presentations, pitches and RFPs and assist in preparing lawyer teams for meetings/opportunities. You will be responsible for high-quality content management, drafting targeted and customized content, helping to define client meeting scripts, market and company research and project management as well as drafting compelling internal and external communications. While providing support for all of the partners in the E&I group and working collaboratively with the Senior E&I Marketing Managers, you will have a particular and dedicated focus on supporting the firm’s Energy Transition and EnergyTech initiatives working under the guidance of the Global Marketing Director and lead partners. In this capacity, you will proactively look for opportunities to raise the profile of the firm in those areas internally and externally, develop strategic, multi-pronged marketing campaigns and support internal and client meetings, develop and maintain collateral and draft compelling directory submissions as well as ensure complete league table submissions.

Your Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Practice group business development projects
  • Client development initiatives or projects
  • Market research and competitive intelligence for prospective and current clients
  • Market positioning programs, including advertising, events and sponsorships
  • Award and directory submissions
  • Pitches, proposals and responses to RFPs, ensuring pitch and proposals books are current, tailored and compelling
  • Fact sheets, brochures and other collateral materials
  • Oversee experience database is current
  • Direct social networking channels postings
  • Ensure lawyer biographies are up to date
  • Proactively explore ways to enhance the visibility of the attorneys and the firm in local, regional, global and industry platforms, including speaking engagements, writing opportunities and other brand-building initiatives.

You will collaborate with the various functional units within the Business Development Department, including the Events, Pitch and Proposal, Creative Services, Operations, Communications, and Client Relationship teams, as well as with other departments and programs within the firm including the Knowledge Management team, Community Responsibility Program and the Diversity Program.

You will work under the direction of the Global Marketing Director/E&I Sector and will contribute to management of activities, providing guidance and mentoring other members of the team who support the practice.

Your Qualifications:

  • BA or equivalent international degree; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years marketing or business development management experience
  • Law firm and Energy and Projects business development experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and writing skills. Applicants should expect to submit a writing sample
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong project management skills, laser-like attention to detail and a focus on efficiency
  • Ability to balance competing needs and continually prioritize (and re-prioritize) tasks at a moment’s notice
  • Thinks creatively, is flexible in a fast paced environment and has enthusiasm to perform the job at a high level
  • Builds rapport well and is a good listener; can collaborate comfortably with partners and team members both inside and outside of the firm
  • Highly productive in dynamic, high-pressure situations while maintaining quality control and calm demeanor
  • Strong client service approach and team orientation
  • Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, team first approach, intellectual curiosity and constructive problem solving skills are paramount
  • Strong technical knowledge, computer skills and experience with (or the ability to become proficient in) the use of marketing systems and tools including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), Interaction (CRM Software), Foundation deal database, Orrick’s relevant firm and marketing systems

The amount of pay offered will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, relevant experience, primary work location, market data, and internal equity. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
